Our Chief Scientist, Dr. John Degnan, was invited as the keynote speaker to the 18th International Workshop on Laser Ranging, held this year in Fujishiyoda, Japan. Experts in the field of Laser Ranging from around the world gather to share information and the newest advances at this conference every 2 years. Next year is special as it will mark 50 years of Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR). To celebrate this milestone, a second conference will be held right here at Goddard Space Flight Center in 2014.
Sigma Space delivered the Mini Airborne Topographic Mapper (Mini-ATM) at NASA Wallops Flight Facility, after a development effort based on challenging parameters: intended as a complement to NASA’s existing Airborne Topographic Mapper (ATM), Mini-ATM had to be small and light, able to fly on a small Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) yet generate high-resolution ground elevation maps.
LVIS opens the doors to remote terrain 3D measurements onboard the Global Hawk unmanned aircraft.
NASA Goddard Space Flight Centerand Sigma Space Corp. have recently completed work on another flight mission of MABEL, the Multiple Altimeter Beam Experiment LiDAR. The mission meant to provide the foundation for future ICESat-2science, proving that the newer type of laser altimetry employed by MABEL works at a high altitude.
Sigma Space Corporation partnered with Picarro Corporation, Penn State University and CLIMMOD scientists in the City Carbon project, demonstrating near real-time carbon emission estimates in the city of Davos, Switzerland, before, during, and after the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting (2012).
High-altitude airborne LiDAR wind profiler is in final preparations to support NASA hurricane mission.
NASA GSFC and Sigma Space personnel successfully integrated the Tropospheric Wind LiDAR Technology Experiment (TWiLiTE) onboard the Global Hawk at the end of June 2013, at NASA Dryden Flight Research Center (DFRC) in southern California’s Mojave Desert, following a two-year period of design and integration activities at Sigma Space HQ to reconfigure the instrument.
